Vinopanorama

Bulgaria

Wine has been made in Bulgaria's hills since the time of ancient Thrace, long before the country's modern borders existed. Its native grapes, Mavrud, Melnik and Rubin among them, still thrive in the Thracian Valley and the Struma Valley to the south, giving Bulgarian reds a character found nowhere else. Vinopanorama has catalogued more than 30 wine producers here, from historic cellars to newer estates, for travelers curious about this often overlooked corner of the wine map.
